Today, Congressman Mike Ezell (MS-04) released the following statement after the federal government officially shut down:
"The House did its job and passed a clean, bipartisan Continuing Resolution to prevent a government shutdown, something I was proud to support. Unfortunately, many in the Senate chose not to advance our package, despite its lack of partisan policies or poison-pill provisions. The result is a shutdown that never should have happened, and it's the American people who will feel the consequences. I urge my Senate colleagues to come back to the table and work with us to end this lapse quickly and restore stability for the people we serve."
The House-passed Continuing Resolution, which Congressman Ezell supported, would have temporarily extended government funding through November 21, allowing additional time for the regular appropriations process to continue without disruption to federal services.
