Scarborough Society Gala Raises More Than $41,000 for Shepherd University Library

SHEPHERDSTOWN, WV - Nearly 200 guests gathered at The Bavarian Inn Resort and Brewing Company in Shepherdstown, West Virginia on Friday, August 14 for the annual Scarborough Society Gala, raising more than $41,000 in support of Shepherd University's Scarborough Library.

Proceeds from the event, along with annual memberships, support the library's programs, services, technology, and other improvements.

"Support from the Scarborough Society has helped update the children's library, fund databases and subscriptions, implement the cloud-based OCLC WorldShareManagement System, create the Community Reading Room and EduTech Center, and complete vital renovations," said Ann Baronner, Scarborough Society president."We appreciate everything our guests and members do to advance the Society's mission."

Inspired by J.G. Ballard's short story The Garden of Time, the event transformed the Bavarian Inn into a fantasy garden full of flowers and butterflies.

Gala committee member Joy Lewis curated the floral arrangements. Other committee members included Ann Baronner, Danielle Deuell, Angelina Gray, Cara Keys, Kathy Klein, Sara Maene, and Michele Maiden. The committee was led by Shepherd University Foundation Executive Vice President Sherri Janelle and Director of Donor Engagement and Strategic Initiatives Meg Patterson.

Presenting sponsors were Jefferson Security Bank, Snyder Environmental Services, United Bank, WVU Medicine, and Al Lueck, whose gift was made in memory of his wife, Sara. Gold-level sponsors were Truist and Wilmington Trust.
