Danjiang Bridge to open May 12, showcasing Taiwan's prowess and civic progress

At the Cabinet's weekly meeting Thursday, Premier Cho Jung-tai received a Ministry of Transportation and Communications (MOTC) report on the successful completion of the Danjiang Bridge project. The premier said the bridge is a vital component of a road network supporting the government's plan to establish "golden corridors" of development surrounding Taiwan's capital region. Following an international bidding process, seven unsuccessful tenders for the main bridge section, budget revisions and formidable construction challenges, the bridge is scheduled to officially open to traffic on May 12. The premier expressed thanks for the support of the presidents, premiers and ministers of successive administrations, the leadership of the New Taipei City Government, and all the unsung heroes from the ministries, agencies and engineering teams involved in creating this world-class landmark.

Premier Cho noted that the Danjiang Bridge project has already received prestigious engineering honors, including from the Public Construction Golden Quality Awards, the Construction Golden Safety Awards and the New Taipei City Industrial Safety Awards. Calling the project a model of successful central-local cooperation in advancing public infrastructure, he directed the MOTC to continue consolidating the lessons learned from the bridge's design, construction, safety management and maintenance as a reference for future major projects.

The premier further noted that while grand engineering projects showcase a nation's strength, what truly conveys the progress of a civilized society is the refined, human-centered quality of such endeavors. Standing at the mouth of the Tamsui River, the Danjiang Bridge-the world's largest single-pylon asymmetric cable-stayed bridge-is a striking new landmark that demonstrates both national prowess and civic sophistication, and serves as Taiwan's newest symbol.
