WASHINGTON, DC - This weekend, Congresswoman Lateefah Simon (D-CA-12) joined MS NOW's "Politics Nation with Reverend Al Sharpton" to discuss the Trump Administration's attack on fair and free elections, protecting Californians' voting rights, and fighting for a government that works for all.
You can watch the full interview HEREand read an excerpt of Congresswoman Simon's comments below:
"For a president who mailed in his own ballot in the last election, telling members of the American public that voting by mail isn't the right way to go - it's ludicrous.
"What I know as a disability advocate, we have tens of thousands of folks in my district alone who are disabled and who count on the vote by mail process to ensure that their voices are heard.
We have an efficacious process in the state of California. And the Administration, they know that. You know, they're polling in the 30s [for Presidential approval rating]. Their policies in no way, shape or form are benefiting the everyday American who's fighting to pay their rent, trying to find quarters for laundry, trying to feed their children. They know they're not looking well, so they're trying to figure out how to trip us all up into thinking that our election processes aren't fair. In fact, they are fair.
"What isn't fair is Donald Trump incarcerating thousands of folks without due process or cutting the food stamps of everyday Americans who are struggling to survive."
