USDA Invests in Water Infrastructure Upgrades for the Anna-Jonesboro Water Commission

U.S. Department of Agriculture Rural Development Illinois State Director Jesus Ortega has announced that the Anna-Jonesboro Water Commission will receive $11.115 million for critical water infrastructure upgrades.

"Under the leadership of President Donald J. Trump and Agriculture Secretary Brooke Rollins, USDA Rural Development is committed to ensuring access to safe, reliable water throughout rural Illinois," said Ortega. "This project will improve water access for Union County residents and will improve economic opportunities for families and businesses in the region."

Rural Development financing for the project will consist of a $10.565 million loan and $550,000 grant through the agency's Water and Environment Program. The project includes rehabilitating the commission's water treatment plant and 500,000-gallon water storage tank, as well as construction of a new well, replacement of 11,885 feet of water main line and upgrades to the booster pumps. The existing groundwater supply in the area is diminishing, and the system's water main line has exposed pipe due to a creek washout. This project will improve water distribution to a population of 11,424 in Union County.
