Archaeologists use scientific techniques to uncover artifacts, such as these dinosaur bones housed at the University of Alaska Museum of the North.

Three archaeologists from the University of Alaska Museum of the North will lead a mock excavation for Delta Junction Archaeology Day.

The workshop takes place on Saturday, Feb. 21, from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. at the Delta Career Advancement Center, located at 1696 N. Clearwater Ave., Delta Junction.

It is a joint effort by the UAF Cooperative Extension Service, Delta-Greely School District and the Partners for Progress in Delta Career Advancement Center.

Archaeologists Josh Reuther, Jeff Rasic and Scott Shirar will use a simulated site to teach participants how to uncover, document and interpret artifacts and features.

Participants will use archaeological techniques, such as troweling, measuring and recording, to see how small pieces of the past are turned into scientific knowledge. The activity is designed for kids and adults.

Registration is required. To sign up, contact Chris Lyon at the Delta Career Advancement Center by emailing [email protected]or calling 907-895-4605.

The cost is $15 per person or $25 for a family. Children under 17 must be accompanied by an adult who is also registered.
