Wyden, Merkley, Salinas: Two Oregon Airports to Receive Combined $641,000 in Federal Investment

Lawmakers announce federal funds for airports in McMinnville and Lexington

Washington, D.C. - U.S. Senators Ron Wyden and Jeff Merkley as well as U.S. Rep. Andrea Salinas today announced that airports in Yamhill and Morrow counties will receive a combined federal investment of more than $641,000 to improve their infrastructure.

"Small airports throughout our state require ongoing federal support like these infrastructure awards that ensure safe and reliable flights for local businesses, emergency responses, and all Oregonians," Wyden said. "I'll keep battling for similar investments that help all Oregon communities serve their communities in the air and on the ground."

"Our regional airports are vital hubs for Oregonians, benefitting the folks who rely on them for business, travel, and so much more," Merkley said. "Investing in essential airport improvements strengthens communities across our state. I'll keep fighting to secure critical federal funds for improving the efficiency and reliability of Oregon's airports."

"Our airports must have up-to-date, reliable infrastructure so they can continue serving our communities," said Salinas. "That is why I am proud to bring federal funding back to Oregon to make necessary improvements to our airports so that everyone can travel safely."

The awards from the federal Department of Transportation for the Oregon airports are as follows:

1. $450,000tothe city of McMinnville for McMinnville Municipal Airport to acquire and install a new wind cone to provide pilots with airfield information; build 12,500 feet of perimeter fencing and 10 gates.
2. $191,196 to Morrow County for Lexington Airport to rebuild the precision approach path indicator for one runway; to relocate the precision approach path indicator for another runway.
