President Trump’s Las Vegas Visit Highlights Huge Wins for Hardworking Americans

President's visit comes after the Ways and Means Committee traveled last July to Las Vegas, the birthplace of No Tax on Tips, to hear from Nevadans about how the Working Families Tax Cuts deliver much needed relief.

WASHINGTON, D.C. - President Trump's visit to Las Vegas, Nevada underscores the huge wins for hardworking Americans, families, small businesses and farmers as a result of the Working Families Tax Cuts. This tax season, which concluded April 15, Americans experienced firsthand the larger paychecks and bigger refunds that President Trump promised and Republicans in Congress delivered in the Working Families Tax Cuts. In addition to making the successful 2017 Trump tax cuts permanent and larger, Republicans enacted new tax cuts that spurred a historic tax refund season - including No Tax on Tips, No Tax on Overtime, No Tax on Social Security, No Tax on Auto Loan Interest, a larger Child Tax Credit, an enhanced standard deduction, and Trump Accounts, among other key tax relief.

"President Trump's visit to Las Vegas highlights how the Working Families Tax Cuts gave tax relief to the workers and families across this country who needed it most. Tax refunds were record-setting, up more than 11 percent with the average tax refund setting a new record over $3,400. Nearly half of all tax filers claimed at least one of No Tax on Tips, Overtime, Social Security, and Auto Loan Interest," said Ways and Means Committee Chairman Jason Smith (MO-08). "Las Vegas is the birthplace of No Tax on Tips, where President Trump was famously approached by a waiter who suggested what an incredible help it would be to working men and women in this country. That's why the Ways and Means Committee traveled to Las Vegas last summer to hear from real Americans about how our bill would help them. A waiter working on the Las Vegas Strip testified that No Tax on Tips would pay his power bill for the entire year. A DoorDash delivery driver shared that with more money in her pocket she would be able to travel across the country to visit her family and help with her husband's medical bills. A paint foreman told the committee that No Tax on Overtime will put extra money into his employees' pockets. A senior shared how No Tax on Social Security will finally allow her to replenish her savings account after Joe Biden's inflation crisis drained it."

Stories from Nevadans About Working Families Tax Cuts
Las Vegas was the site of the first Ways and Means hearing held after the Working Families Tax Cuts were signed into law. Local Nevadans shared the personal impact the tax relief would have on their lives:

Sharon Simmons, a DoorDash driver, told the Committee that her tax savings would "literally allow me to see my family more often."

Sharon Simmons, DoorDash driver: "That's why I'm very excited that Congress took action to include Dashers and other independent contractors in the no tax on tips. For someone like me, that means hundreds or potentially thousands of dollars that stay in my pocket every year. I plan to use these tax savings to cover follow-up medical visits for my husband and to travel to Missouri to see my mom, my kids and my grandchildren. No tax on tips will literally allow me to see my family more often."

Nancy Overman, a Nevada senior, shared how the new $6,000 deduction for Social Security will allow her to stop dipping into her life savings for living expenses as she had to do under Joe Biden.

Nancy Overman, Nevada senior: "As a Social Security recipient, one key policy that means a great deal to me and others in my situation is the new $6,000 deduction for middle-class seniors which will help to offset the taxes we pay on Social Security…This deduction gives seniors like me some breathing room, helps us keep up with rising costs, and sends the message that our contributions are still valued. For me personally, this deduction means I will be able to better manage the basics like groceries, utilities, and the occasional unexpected medical expense, without draining what little savings I have left."

Eric Byington, a foreman for a Nevada neon sign manufacturer, noted that No Tax on Overtime is a reward for the hard work of millions of Americans.

Eric Byington, paint foreman: "I wake up at 4 AM to come to this job that I love for this beautiful company. These are the things that make it worthwhile. This is actually a change for the working-class Americans. It's the incentive. That's what this country has been about since day one. The harder you work, the more you're rewarded, and that's what this bill does. You work overtime. You're working hard; you're staying late. Now you're rewarded. You're working weekends. You're rewarded…."

Nevada mother Yadusha Jones shared how the expanded Child Tax Credit will make a difference for her family:

Yadusha Jones, Nevada mother: "It means a lot. We have kids in elementary all the way up to high school. It gives us the opportunity. We have a daughter - she can start driving soon. We'll be able to help her purchase a car. We want to show her work ethic, so we are going to match what she brings to the table. We are not just going to hand her money. It's all about work ethic."
