Sacramento - Construction on the $511.1 million U.S. Highway 50 (US 50) Multimodal Corridor Enhancement "Fix50" Project continues with scheduled weekend connector closures at the Capital City Freeway/State Route 99 (SR 99)/U.S. Highway 50 interchange for pavement work.

With four lanes open in both directions of the highway, all traffic splits and detours removed from the mainline last December, and 82 overhead signs installed along the project, the FIX50 has entered its final phase with construction moving forward with the rehabilitation of these important connectors at this interchange.

On March 27, Caltrans alerted motorists and the public about three consecutive scheduled closures for the month of April at the Capital City Freeway/State Route 99 (SR 99)/U.S. Highway 50 interchange. On April 10, due to weather, the schedule was updated. The new schedule for the two remaining April closures is as follows:

Second Connector Closure: 15-hour closure for northbound State Route 99 (SR 99) to the eastbound US 50 connector 10 p.m. on Friday, April 17, to 1 p.m. Saturday, April 18.

Suggested Detour:

  • Take the SR 99 connector to westbound US 50
  • From westbound US 50 take the off-ramp to 16th Street (Exit 5)
  • Continue to W Street
  • Turn left onto 15th Street
  • Turn left onto X Street
  • Take the 16th Street on-ramp to eastbound US 50

Third Connector Closure: 15-hour closure for eastbound US 50 to eastbound Capital City Freeway/Business 80 connector 10 p.m., Friday, April 24 to 1 p.m., Saturday, April 25.

Suggested Detour:

  • Continue eastbound on US 50
  • Take the off-ramp to 65th Street (Exit 8B) then turn left on 65th Street
  • Take the loop on-ramp to westbound US 50, continue on westbound US 50 to the eastbound Capital City Freeway/Business 80 connector ramp

Caltrans reminds drivers to expect delays, stay alert when traveling through work zones, and pay close attention to advance warning signs. Motorists are encouraged to plan and allow extra travel time.

The ongoing work is part of a project to rehabilitate pavement and add 14 lane miles of high-occupancy vehicle lanes from the US 50/Interstate 5 interchange to the US 50/Watt Avenue interchange.

The work zone speed limit has been reduced to 55 mph, and the California Highway Patrol will be present for traffic enforcement. For more information visit the U.S. Highway 50 Multimodal Corridor Enhancement and Rehabilitation Project .

Work is scheduled as listed but is subject to change due to traffic incidents, availability of equipment and/or materials, or other construction-related issues.

Caltrans District 3 is responsible for maintaining and operating 4,385 lane miles in 11 Sacramento Valley and Northern Sierra counties. Caltrans reminds motorists to "Be Work Zone Alert" and slow in construction zones for the safety of travelers and crews performing these improvements.

The department issues construction updates on X @CaltransDist3 and on Facebook at CaltransDistrict3. For real-time traffic, visit Caltrans' QuickMap or download the app from the App Store or Google Play.
