Burkina Faso, Mali, and Senegal combined MY 2026/27 cotton area harvested is forecast to decrease 4 percent to 980,000 HA while production is forecast to decrease 7.7 percent to 1.79 million bales when compared to the April 2026 report. The late start of the MY 2026/27 rainy season delayed planting in all three countries. In Mali, the lack of fertilizer which was delivered late in certain regions discouraged farmers to plant more cotton, resulting in a nine percent decrease in area compared to the previous year. MY 2026/27 exports are estimated to increase 10 percent over the previous year at 1.74 million bales based on available supply, driven mainly by Burkina Faso. In Burkina Faso, the second largest cotton company will not participate for the second year in a row in the marketing year cotton campaign due to insecurity.
