Washington, D.C. - Congresswoman Sheri Biggs (R-SC-03) has introduced the Defending Women in the Workplace Act, legislation to protect women's privacy and safety in the workplace and restore clarity to federal law.
"We are putting an end to the radical gender ideology that has turned our workplaces into a playground for the woke mob. It's common sense: men belong in men's rooms and women belong in women's rooms," said Congresswoman Biggs. "The Defending Women in the Workplace Actdraws a line in the sand: we are protecting single-sex spaces and returning to the biological truth that everyone knows is right. We will not let the far-left erase women."
In recent years, federal agencies and courts have twisted civil rights law to redefine "sex discrimination" in ways Congress never intended, following the Supreme Court's Bostock v. Clayton County decision. In practice, this has forced employers to navigate confusing and conflicting guidance, allowing men into spaces meant for women, raising serious concerns about privacy and safety in restrooms, locker rooms, and changing areas.
The Defending Women in the Workplace Act restores clarity by reaffirming that federal law is based on biological sex. It ensures employers can legally maintain separate, single-sex spaces for men and women.
This effort builds upon her introduction of the Protecting Motherhood Act. As a career healthcare professional, she knows that biology isn't a choice; it's a fact. This legislation continues her mission to restore sanity and ensure that federal policy protects women's spaces based on biological reality, not radical ideology.
The Defending Women in the Workplace Act is supported by Concerned Women for America Legislative Action Committee, Eagle Forum, Independent Women's Forum, and the American Principles Project.
Congresswoman Biggs is joined by Representatives Harrigan, Mace, Norman, Ogles, Perry, Letlow, Gosar, Luna, and Boebert as original cosponsors of the legislation.
