Long Beach Airport Ready for Thanksgiving Travel Rush

Long Beach Airport Ready for Thanksgiving Travel Rush

Release Date: 2025-11-17

Long Beach, CA - With Thanksgiving around the corner, Long Beach Airport (LGB) is prepared to welcome an elevated number of travelers and is encouraging passengers to plan ahead for a smooth, stress-free journey.

"This time of year is all about connection, and Long Beach Airport helps make those moments possible," said Mayor Rex Richardson. "Even on the busiest travel days of the year - whether you're flying in or flying out - you'll experience the ease, comfort and charm that make Long Beach Airport so special."

Through its airline partners, Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines, an estimated 110,000 passengers will move through LGB during the 10-day holiday period from Friday, Nov. 21, through Sunday, Nov. 30.

Nov. 30, the Sunday after Thanksgiving, is expected to be the busiest travel day. Other heavy travel days will include Friday, Nov. 21, Sunday, Nov. 23, and Wednesday, Nov. 26, when more than 12,000 passengers are expected to pass through the Airport each day-about 20% more than a typical November day.

Throughout the holiday season, travelers can enjoy some extra good cheer at the Airport with festive decor and concessions as well as musical performances in the Airport's award-winning indoor-outdoor concourse.

"We know that holiday travel can be stressful, so our team works hard to keep the Long Beach experience relaxed and efficient," said Airport Director Cynthia Guidry. "From the moment passengers arrive, they feel the difference at Long Beach Airport. We're proud to make holiday travel something to look forward to."

To help passengers travel with ease this Thanksgiving, LGB recommends the following tips:

  • Arrive 90 minutes early, especially for morning flights, to allow adequate time to pass through security.
  • For drivers picking up passengers, please wait in one of two free Cell Phone Waiting Lots, located on the northwest and southwest corners of Lakewood Boulevard and East Donald Douglas Drive, until your passenger calls to let you know they are ready on the curb. Circling around Donald Douglas Drive or waiting at the curb increases congestion for everyone.
  • Parking is available in Structures A and B and may be reserved in advance at lgb.org/parking. Valet service is conveniently located at 4137 Donald Douglas Dr., just north of the Historic Terminal.
  • Check your airline's baggage rules and verify flight schedules in advance.
  • Packing properly can facilitate the screening process, so visit the Transportation Security Administration's What Can I Bring? website for details.
  • Travelers with pets and service animals should note the location of the relief area north of the Historic Terminal and check their airline's policies for traveling with animals in advance.

Long Beach Airport, ranked the second-best airport in the nation by The Washington Post, is centrally located between Los Angeles and Orange counties. Its carriers - Delta Air Lines, Hawaiian Airlines and Southwest Airlines - offer nonstop service to 21 airports nationwide, including Hawaii, with one-stop connections to nearly 400 cities worldwide.
