CGTP-IN: The Portuguese government’s proposed labour reform was rejected by the Portuguese Parliament.

The Portuguese government's proposed labour reform was rejected by the Portuguese Parliament.

This proposal was overwhelmingly rejected by workers, who, from the very outset, stood firmly against this labour reform package.

The only ones responsible for the defeat of this labour reform package were the workers and their struggle!

Over the last 11 months, the CGTP-IN and Portuguese workers have not given up the fight. We have held two general strikes, dozens of demonstrations, and organised struggles within companies and workplaces:

  • 20 September . 2025 | National Day of Struggle/Demonstration in Lisbon and Porto
  • 8 November . 2025 | National March
  • 11 December . 2025 | GENERAL STRIKE
  • 13 January . 2026 | National Demonstration - delivery of 190,000 signatures to the Prime Minister
  • 28 February . 2026 | Demonstration in Lisbon and Porto
  • 28 March . 2026 | National Demonstration of Young Workers
  • 17 April . 2026 | National Demonstration in Lisbon
  • 25 April . 2026 | Popular Commemorations
  • 1 May . 2026 | Great Day of Struggle with actions throughout the country
  • 3 June . 2026 | GENERAL STRIKE

This is an example of how workers' struggle, their determination and courage, are the essential elements in countering the agenda of capital and defeating the objectives of the governments that serve it.

We will continue the struggle for better living and working conditions, for a general increase in wages, for an end to job insecurity, and in defence of collective bargaining and the social functions of the state.

We are grateful for the solidarity and support we have received from all of you, and we share in the joy of this victory that Portuguese workers have achieved today.
