Career Exploration Day

On Monday, April 27, MaineGeneral Health welcomed nearly 100 local high school students to Career Exploration Day at the Alfond Center for Health in Augusta.

Students from the Capital Area Technical Center, Cony High School, Erskine Academy, Lewiston Regional Technical Center, Messalonskee High School and more engaged with 20 different departments including Nursing, Imaging, Laboratory, Nutrition Services and Audiology.

Hands-on demonstrations allowed students to get a feel for some of the tasks that our medical staff do every day. MaineGeneral employees shared their own professional journeys, offered advice and sparked inspiration. A tour of the Alfond Center for Health gave students a behind-the-scenes look at how the hospital operates, and a Q&A session let them envision how their skills and interests could align with meaningful careers in health care.

Greg Zimba, MaineGeneral's career navigator and organizer of the event, said "It's always rewarding to see students connect with our staff and start to picture themselves in these roles. This is exactly the kind of impact we hope to make in our community."

Career Exploration Day is a part of MaineGeneral's commitment to meeting those interested in careers in health care where they are at. The health system offers many opportunities, including Student Observer job shadowing with medical staff members, Medical Assistant and Certified Nursing Assistant Earn to Learn Programs and a dedicated Career Navigator who works directly with students and schools.
