Residential Permitting Expo returns Oct. 17

Join the city for workshops, expert panel and opportunities to connect with permitting staff

Bellevue's Residential Permitting Expo is back for its second year, building on the strong community interest and participation that defined the launch in 2025. Community members are invited to drop in, ask questions and connect with city staff at the event on Saturday, Oct. 17, 10 a.m.-3:30 p.m. at City Hall.

Last year, hundreds of community members stopped by to talk with experts about a wide range of topics - from permits and inspections to emerging policy changes. For 2026, the event will feature expanded programming, including new sessions shaped by community feedback.

This free, family-friendly event offers a chance to get practical guidance on everything from the permitting process and inspections to code updates and policy changes. Staff from departments across the Development Services line of business will be on hand (video highlights of the 2025 expo).

New workshops and panel discussions for 2026 include:

• Understanding the permitting process
• How to use MyBuildingPermit.com
• Tree code rules and removal requirements

Following the expo, community members are invited to stay for an interactive event to learn more about the proposed pre-approved plans program for detached accessory dwelling units and cottages in Bellevue. This program is aimed at simplifying permitting for these housing types through the availability of city-reviewed building plans for purchase.

Development of the program is beginning with community engagement to shape design criteria and tools to support future applicants. On Oct. 17, city staff will share the vision for the program, showcase feasibility tools and answer questions. More information on the program is available at Pre-Approved Plans.

Registration for the expo is appreciated. City Hall is accessible by light rail, walking or rolling and free visitor parking is available.
