Jelly Roll Honors Dolly Parton: 'The Last American That Everyone Liked'

Jelly Roll delivered a heartfelt tribute to late legendDolly Parton while serving as the guest host on Jimmy Kimmel Live on Tuesday night (August 25).

Parton died on Tuesday after "bravely facing a brief battle with cancer," her representatives confirmed. She was 80. Parton was remembered in an official announcement as "a beloved singer, songwriter, philanthropist, actress, playwright, and author." Jelly Roll's tribute on Jimmy Kimmel Live joins an outpouring of tributes to the beloved country star. He said on the show :

"I do want to mention a big story on everyone's heart and mind. We lost a legend today, the great Dolly Parton. She was such an inspiration to so many, myself included. We're both from Tennessee, and she meant a lot to my family, y'all. We used to sit around the kitchen table and listen to her music together as a family. I'll never forget it. I learned so much from Dolly over the years about songwriting, how to handle this crazy business, and how to support your community. So, I want to send my love to East Tennessee and Sevier County right now, representing her. We love you, Dolly. We miss you. She was infinitely talented. She was relentlessly funny, and adored by all. She might be the last American that everyone liked. We will miss her dearly. Rest in peace, Dolly. We will always love you."

The official announcement states that "Dolly is preceded in death by her beloved husband of 59 years Carl Thomas Dean (1942 - 2025), her mother Avie Lee Caroline Owens (1923 - 2003), and father, Robert Lee Parton, Sr. (1921 - 2000). …At Dolly's request, a small, private service will be held for immediate family. Dolly's fans and friends from around the world are encouraged to pay tribute to Dolly on social media by tagging @DollyParton or by leaving a message at www.dollyparton.com. In lieu of flowers the family asks for donations to be made to Dolly Parton's Imagination Library."
