ICYMI: Kelly Blasts Trump for Enriching Himself While Americans Can’t Afford Their Lives

"How does changing the name of a lake help the American people? They can't afford their lives right now."

"He [Trump] doesn't care about the American people. He doesn't care about our country. He cares about himself and his family and his friends."

In case you missed it, last night on CNN's Erin Burnett OutFront, Arizona Senator Mark Kelly ripped President Trump for focusing on the wrong priorities and enriching himself while Americans struggle, calling out the president's unprecedent corruption.

Sen. Kelly talks to Brianna Keilar on CNN.

Watch the full conversation here. See key excerpts below:

On Trump's misplaced priorities…

"The number one job of a leader is to improve people's lives. He said there, in the Oval Office, he has spent a lot of time thinking about this. How does changing the name of a lake help the American people? They can't afford their lives right now. Because of his actions, the price of energy, specifically gas and diesel, has been jacked up substantially. People can't afford to put gas in their car. They can't afford rent. They can't afford food. And it's all because of this guy refuses to even try to do the job."

On the damage Trump is doing to America's alliances…

"He seems to always be tougher on our allies than he does on our adversaries. He sucks up to dictators around the world, especially Putin in Russia. He needs to read a book. He really does. He needs to understand history and the historical significance of how having these alliances have protected us and made us stronger and help us build the biggest economy in the world.

"We've got the strongest military, and he's dismantling that right in front of everybody, because I don't think he understands the role that the United States has on the world stage, or he doesn't care. He spends a lot of time on stupid things like the naming of lakes and gulfs. He spends a lot of time on trying to make himself richer, his family. The corruption that this administration is participating is unprecedented, and he seems to spend little time on improving people's lives. Hey, we've got about another two years and this is going to be hopefully over and done for good. I just worry about the damage he's going to be doing between now and 2028."

On Trump's unprecedented self-enrichment at the expense of the American people…

"Like all other presidents, he should have put all of his assets into a blind trust. I did that for me while I got into the Senate, after I was sworn in, so I've got my assets in a blind trust. I have a public schedule. I don't take corporate PAC money. There's very few people-I might be the only one or maybe one of a handful of people-that do that in the United States Congress. This president does the opposite.

"He looks for every opportunity. How does he grab the next buck? What trade can he make? What deal did the U.S. government just make that the public doesn't know about and he could possibly benefit from? He's trying to sell information to Wall Street at a subscription price of $100,000 a month. Inside information. He thinks this is a fair thing to do.

"He gets richer while half of America right now is having a hard time affording food, and this president is becoming richer to the tune of billions of dollars. He doesn't care about the American people. He doesn't care about our country. He cares about himself and his family and his friends."
