CHATTANOOGA, Tenn. - The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is continuing work on the SR 111 J-Turn safety improvements project in Putnam County, highlighting ongoing construction and upcoming milestones as the project remains on schedule.
Recent Construction Progress:
· North & South Median Sections: Crews are making progress installing the final lift of base stone on the southbound turn lanes. The majority of the northbound turn lanes are up to base stone grade.
Traffic Pattern Updates:
· Existing lane closures and detours remain in effect, and drivers should continue to follow posted signage through the work zone.
Drivers Should Expect the Following in the Coming Weeks:
· Riprap will be placed on the northwest corner of the project to prepare the area for additional base stone installation.
· In the next one to two weeks, crews will sawcut the interior yellow lines and install the remaining base stone for all median turn lanes, as well as complete base stonework in the northwest and southeast corners of the project.
· Paving operations are anticipated to begin in late October as crews transition from base stone preparation to surface paving activities.
As always, motorists are reminded to use TDOT's motorist information tools and Know Before You Go! by checking travel conditions before departing. Drivers should never tweet, text, or talk on the phone while driving. For the latest updates, visit the TDOT SmartWay Map or dial 511 for statewide travel information.
Tennessee's Move Over Law requires drivers to move over for highway workers and emergency vehicles. Violations may result in up to 30 days in jail and fines up to $500.
