On Oct. 14, 2025, Niagara University, in partnership with Erie 1 BOCES, local school districts, and higher education institutions, will welcome high school juniors and seniors from school districts across Western New York to explore the diverse opportunities within the education field during the 4th Annual Careers in Education Conference. This one-day event, which will be held in the Russell J. Salvatore Dining Commons on the Niagara University campus, aims to engage these students and demonstrate how their passions can lead to rewarding careers in education in an effort to help meet New York state's projected need of 180,000 new teachers over the next decade.
NU alumna Kimberly Alexander Carlo, '15, a 7th grade science teacher at Lewiston-Porter Middle School and recipient of the prestigious national Milken Educator Award, will be the keynote speaker at the event. She was the first-ever Milken Educator Award recipient in the Lewiston-Porter Central School District and the sole New York state recipient during the 2023-24 season to receive what is hailed as the "Oscars of Teaching."
The students will also participate in small group activities and network with area teachers throughout the day.
