POWELLS POINT, N.C.
Chapter 19 of the North Carolina General Statutes defines nuisance activities and provides civil remedies to eliminate recurring criminal behavior and restore public safety. Utilizing these legal protections, collaborative action between local leaders, the Currituck County Sheriff's Office (CCSO), and the North Carolina Alcohol Law Enforcement Division's (ALE) Nuisance Abatement Team has resulted in a court-ordered preliminary injunction against a Powells Point residence following years of continued nuisance-related activity.
On November 4, 2026, Superior Court Judge Andrew Womble granted a preliminary injunction against the property located at 175 N. Spot Road in Powells Point. The injunction remains in effect until the civil case is fully resolved or goes to trial.
This court order follows years of citizen complaints and frequent law enforcement calls for service regarding narcotics activity, drug overdoses, sex trafficking, and repeated breaches of the peace at the location.
Under the terms of the preliminary injunction:
In response to overwhelming calls for service putting a strain on community and law enforcement resources, District Attorney Jeff Cruden, County Attorney Megan Morgan, and CCSO requested assistance from ALE's Nuisance Abatement Team.
ALE special agents joined forces with CCSO to complete a formal investigation into the property. On October 21, 2026, the District Attorney's Office filed a civil complaint seeking a preliminary injunction under Chapter 19.
