EPA to Hold Public Meetingon February 24 to Discuss Technical Assistance Needs Assessment with Community Near Hercules Inc. Superfund Site
ATLANTA (February 18, 2026) - EPA will hold a public meeting on Tuesday, February 24, 2026to share the results of the Technical Assistance Needs Assessment (TANA) for the community near the Hercules Inc. Superfund Site in Hattiesburg, Mississippi.
Community members are invited to review the TANA report, ask questions, provide input on recommendations for community technical assistance support,and voice concerns about the site and cleanup to EPA staff. EPA held a public meeting September 16, 2025to introduce a TANA, a process to determine how to make sure the community understands the technical information so that they are able to meaningfully engage in decision-making for a specific superfund site.

BACKGROUND:
Hercules Inc., a former chemical manufacturer located in a mixed commercial, industrial and residential area, operated from 1923 to 2009. The site was added to the National Priorities List in 2022 and is now managed under the Comprehensive Environmental Response, Compensation and Liability Act (CERCLA). The site is in the Remedial Action/Feasibility Study phase of the superfund cleanup process.
