Update Re: Court Operations During a Government Shutdown

Wednesday, October 1, 2025

Congress did not pass a fiscal year (FY) 2026 appropriations bill to avert a government shutdown on October 1. As FY25 funding balances are closed out, the Judiciary will receive updates on its available lapse funding. The Judiciary is now able to sustain paid operations through the use of fee balances and no-year appropriations through Friday, October 17, 2025.

Should the lapse in appropriations persist and the Judiciary reaches a point where unfunded operations occur, scheduled hearings will be held as usual, filings will be accepted, hours of operation, system availability, and other services will continue as normal.
