Supporting Safer, More Efficient Crossings with Electric Vehicles

EUBAM Rafah donated one electric luggage transport cart and two new mobility carts to the Palestinian General Authority of Borders and Crossings (GABC) to support operations at the Rafah Crossing Point (RCP).

"The donation comes in response to the substantial increase in passenger numbers since the opening at the crossing, which has put enormous pressure on the existing transport equipment", explained Michael Haliti, Head of EUBAM Rafah's operations. "As climatic conditions, terrain and medical circumstances mean that not all travelers are able to carry their own luggage, suitable transport solutions are essential to ensure efficient and dignified movement through the crossing."

The electric luggage transport cart will improve the movement of baggage within the RCP, while the two new mobility carts will provide dedicated assistance to elderly travelers, persons with disabilities, and other passengers with reduced mobility.

The new equipment is expected to:

  • Improve the efficiency of passenger and luggage movements within the crossing.
  • Enhance accessibility and assistance for vulnerable travelers.
  • Support border operations in accordance with humanitarian principles and international border and customs standards.
  • Increase operational reliability through purpose-built electric transport solutions.

EUBAM Rafah remains committed to practical support for secure, effective and people-centered border management at the RCP.
