Rutgers Highly Ranked for Graduates’ Social Mobility

Newark and Camden in top 10 for social mobility among national universities; New Brunswick is #16 top public university and among top 50 national universities

Rutgers University ranks high among the nation's top universities for social mobility, according to the 2026 U.S. News & World Reportcollege rankings, with Newark and Camden among the top 10 and New Brunswick ranking second among the Big Ten Conference's 18 universities.

The social mobility rankings, which assess how well schools enroll and graduate economically disadvantaged students, is part of the annual U.S. NewsBest Colleges rankingsof nearly 1,700 colleges and universities. Rutgers-Newark ranks #5 for social mobility, Rutgers-Camden ranks #9 and Rutgers-New Brunswick is #2 among the Big Ten's 18 public and private universities and #52 nationally.

Once again among the top 20 public universities and top 50 of all national universities, Rutgers-New Brunswick is ranked as the #16 public university and the #42 national university in the U.S. Newsrankings.

Rutgers-Newark and Rutgers-Camden continue to make strong gains in the rankings among the top 50 public universities and the top 100 national universities. Rutgers-Newark is #36 among public universities and #75 among all national universities. Rutgers-Camden is #46 among public universities and #97 among national universities.

This year's rankings maintain a positive trend over the last several years. Since 2021, Rutgers-New Brunswick has moved up 21 spots in the best national university rankings, Rutgers-Newark has moved up 52 spots and Rutgers-Camden has moved up 51 spots.

The 2026 U.S. News & World Report Best Colleges rankings were calculated using 17 key measures of academic qualityfor national universities with an emphasis on social mobility and outcomes for graduating college students.
