Direct Relief has provided a further 15.9 tons of medicines and medical supplies for patients in Gaza, where field hospitals and primary health care sites are treating thousands of people with urgent and ongoing medical needs.
Medications include treatments for chronic diseases, bacterial and parasitic infections, and maternal and prenatal health needs. The shipment also includes oral rehydration salts, protective and sanitation items, and specialized medicines used in advanced hospital care.
For patients, the arrival of aid means medicines and supplies are available to help control diabetes, manage blood pressure, treat infections, stabilize breathing, and support healthy pregnancies. For clinicians, it means more of the resources needed to sustain care amid extraordinary demand.
"Behind every shipment are people - including pregnant women, and those with newborn babies - waiting for care, and health workers doing all they can to get it to those who need it the most," said Amy Weaver, CEO, Direct Relief. "This delivery helps make that possible by delivering the medicines and supplies needed to keep essential care going."
All Hands and Hearts coordinated logistics and distribution for the $3.7 million aid delivery to reach health facilities in Gaza. Those include hospital facilities providing 24/7 emergency and specialty care to thousands of patients, as well as several primary health care points that help reduce pressure on hospitals managing severe and complex cases.
"Getting critical medicines into Gaza requires trusted partnerships, relentless coordination, and determination at every stage," said Nate Mook, CEO of All Hands & Hearts. "We are proud to work alongside Direct Relief and our hospital and clinic partners to help ensure doctors, nurses, and frontline healthcare teams have the medicines and supplies they need to continue caring for patients under extraordinarily difficult conditions. Hospitals and clinics across Gaza are operating under immense strain, yet healthcare workers continue showing up every day to save lives. Our role is to help ensure they are not doing that work without critical support."
The aid delivery is part of Direct Relief's ongoing support for Gaza, which totals more than $43 million and 14.8 million defined daily doses of medicine over the past 12 months - enough to support a year of treatment for an estimated 40,500 patients. Direct Relief is also preparing an additional 10 tons of requested medicines and supplies for health facilities in Gaza, with departure expected in the coming weeks.
