Fact Sheet: Multi-Mission Range Complex 2

MINDEF/SAF is developing a second Multi-Mission Range Complex (MMRC 2) that will be fully operational by 2031 to complement the current MMRC in supporting our Army's marksmanship training and enhancing the SAF's training capacity and operational readiness.

MMRC 2 will be designed as a technologically advanced, fully indoor live-firing facility. With its compact land footprint, MMRC 2 will allow the SAF to meet growing training needs while optimising land resources. It will enable our Regulars and National Servicemen to have increased opportunities to maintain the currency of their weapons skills and allow more people such as SAF Volunteers and cadets from National Cadet Corps to experience a slice of National Service. Similar to MMRC, MMRC 2 will utilise a Government-Owned, Contractor-Operated model.

Key Features

MMRC 2 will be located at Bedok Camp, positioned just two minutes from the future Sungei Bedok MRT station for enhanced accessibility. The complex will feature six 100-metre ranges, all fully equipped with Video Targetry Systems (VTS). Two ranges will be built to double-height, facilitating training scenarios such as manned-unmanned teaming operations. Like MMRC, MMRC 2 will optimise land use and training spaces by replacing six outdoor ranges in terms of the throughput of soldiers undergoing training.

Enhanced Training Capabilities

MMRC 2 will address increasingly complex operational demands through dynamic scenario-based training, beyond traditional static distance shooting. Below are some of the capabilities of MMRC 2:

  • Realistic and Customisable Training. MMRC 2 prepares our soldiers for the challenges of the modern battlefield. Live-firing training will be conducted against the backdrop of battlefield scenarios enabled by the VTS. The VTS will also feature rapid scenario-creation capabilities to meet evolving mission and training requirements. The challenging battlefield environment will also be simulated through flashing lights, sound effects, and props such as rubble.

  • Operating with and against Drones. The double-height ranges will allow for counter-drone live-firing and incorporation of drones into our drills for tactics involving manned-unmanned teaming.

  • Personalised Feedback. MMRC 2 will be able to capture marksmanship performance data to provide personalised feedback for individual firers, helping them improve.

Increased Training Opportunities

MMRC 2 will provide more live-firing opportunities by supporting an annual throughput of approximately 120,000 personnel:

  • Streamlined Access. MMRC 2 will implement individualised booking for shooting, similar to IPPT booking at Fitness Conditioning Centres. Servicemen and SAF Volunteers can book range slots via the OneNS application to fulfil shooting requirements. Previously, soldiers participating in live-firing at baffled ranges would require one full day and night to complete unit-level shooting. MMRC reduced this to an average of half a day for unit-level live-firing. With MMRC 2, individual soldiers now complete their shooting requirements in under two hours, providing an approximate 75% time savings compared to baffled ranges.

  • Accessible Location. MMRC 2 is located just two minutes from the future Sungei Bedok MRT station allowing easier access by NSmen via public transport.

  • Co-located Individual Marksmanship Trainer (IMT). The facility will feature a co-located IMT, allowing seamless transition from virtual simulation to live-firing.
