Tree Trimming/Tree Removal Project to Continue in Marin, Sonoma counties in August along US-101

Published: Jul 27, 2026

Revised: Work rescheduled to Monday, Aug. 3 through Friday, Aug. 7

Marin County and Sonoma County - Caltrans scheduled to continue a tree trimming/removal project in various locations along US-101, State Route 1 (Shoreline Highway) and State Route 116 in both counties.

  • The Southbound US-101 off-ramp at St. Vincent/Miller Creek in San Rafael is scheduled to be closed from Monday, Aug. 3 to Friday, Aug. 7 from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. each day. Drivers should take the off-ramp at Lucas Valley/Smith Ranch Road, take a left at the light onto Lucas Valley Road, go down to the next light and take a right at Las Gallinas Avenue and go two blocks back to Miller Creek. The bus stop on the off-ramp at Miller Creek could be affected during work hours.

This work was originally scheduled for earlier this year but had to be rescheduled.

Work is dependent on weather and other factors.

The removal of trees is to keep our roads as safe as possible for our travelers, and work will be overseen by a certified arborist working alongside Caltrans.

One-way traffic control will be utilized on SR-1 and SR-116.

Caltrans will activate Changeable Message Signs (CMS) to help the public navigate the detours.

The project is expected to conclude around September 2026.
