Deputy Secretary-General of the SCO meets with Director of UNESCO Beijing
On 5 February 2026, Sohail Khan, Deputy Secretary-General of the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, met with Shahbaz Khan, Director of the Beijing Office of the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO), at the SCO Secretariat in Beijing.
The two sides exchanged views on the promising directions for the development of cooperation between the SCO and UNESCO, including in the fields of education, environmental protection, and the preservation of cultural and natural heritage.
Discussions also covered UNESCO's support for the preparation of publications (photo albums) marking the 25th anniversary of the SCO, particularly regarding the compilation of documentary materials on cultural and natural heritage sites of the SCO member states.
Shahbaz Khan confirmed UNESCO's interest in further developing dialogue with the SCO and expressed its readiness to work out specific forms of interaction in the priority areas of cooperation.
