Taiwan-U.S. economic dialogue yields consensus on seven key areas

At Thursday's weekly Cabinet meeting, Premier Cho Jung-tai underscored Taiwan's crucial role in the democratic supply chain for artificial intelligence (AI), as exemplified by the recent signing of the Joint Statement on the Pax Silica Declaration and U.S.-Taiwan Cooperation on Economic Security at the sixth Taiwan-U.S. Economic Prosperity Partnership Dialogue (EPPD). The premier expressed hope that Taiwan and the U.S. will continue leveraging this platform to deepen collaboration across various fields, thereby enhancing public welfare and economic prosperity.

The premier noted that the sixth Taiwan-U.S. EPPD was recently held in Washington, D.C., where the two sides reached specific conclusions and key decisions on seven major areas: AI supply chains, digital infrastructure, critical minerals supply chains, drone supply chains, high-tech talent development, Taiwan-U.S. collaboration in third countries and bilateral economic cooperation. Both sides agreed that the latest round of dialogue, held under the EPPD framework launched in 2020, achieved fruitful results.

Premier Cho emphasized that the talks reaffirmed Taiwan's strategic partnership with the U.S. in democratic supply chains. U.S. representatives also highlighted that the partnership serves as a foundation for building a trustworthy framework for future technological cooperation. The premier directed all ministries and agencies to enhance coordination within their respective areas of responsibility in order to advance follow-up initiatives that maximize the impact of the dialogue's outcomes and further deepen bilateral economic and trade partnerships.
