The acts regulating the powers of national authorities supervising the provisions of the EU Artificial Intelligence Act will enter into force on 1 January 2026. The President of the Republic approved the legislative amendments on the proposal of the Government on 30 December 2025.
The EU AI Act aims to ensure that AI systems introduced on the EU market do not endanger human health, safety or fundamental rights. The regulation primarily safeguards citizens' rights and protects them from the potential harms of AI. It also seeks to encourage innovation and promote the EU's international competitiveness.
Consistent with the Act, supervisory activities of the authorities will focus on AI systems and protection of fundamental rights. Market surveillance authorities will monitor the safety of products in accordance with their powers on market surveillance. Market surveillance authorities will enforce compliance with the provisions and ensure that there are no dangerous or defective products available on the EU's internal market.
On the other hand, the authorities supervising fundamental rights will make sure that AI systems covered by the Act do not negatively affect fundamental rights of citizens.
