The University of Toledo is seeking students, faculty, staff, alumni and community members to help welcome new and returning Rockets by volunteering with the Rocket Welcome Crew on Thursday and Friday, Aug. 27 and 28.
Volunteers will assist first-year students moving into residence halls Thursday, Aug. 27, and returning students Friday, Aug. 28. Shifts are available from 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. at Presidents Hall, Ottawa House and Parks Tower.
A Rocket Welcome Crew volunteer helps a student and family member unload belongings during residence hall move-in last fall. Volunteers are needed to assist first-year students with moving into residence halls on Aug. 27 and returning students on Aug. 28.
Rocket Welcome Crew volunteers may:
• Help load, unload and move bins for students and families;
• Assist with traffic control; and
• Greet students and families, answer questions and provide directions.
All volunteers receive a free Rocket Welcome Crew T-shirt. Student volunteers living in University Housing this fall may move into their residence hall early Monday, Aug. 24, at no additional cost. Volunteering also provides opportunities to earn service hours, gain leadership experience and meet members of the campus community.
Experienced move-in volunteers may indicate interest in serving as volunteer captains, who guide crew members, answer questions and support shift transitions. Captain shifts are four to five hours, and lunch is provided.
Volunteers must attend an orientation session. In-person sessions will be offered at 3 p.m. and 5:30 p.m. Monday, Aug. 24, in Presidents Hall Atrium. A virtual session will be offered at 9 a.m. Tuesday, Aug. 25. Volunteers who attend virtually will receive their T-shirt at their move-in shift.
Those who register by Thursday, Aug. 20, will receive shift assignments by email by end of the day. Registrations submitted after Aug. 20 will receive information as soon as possible.
