The Cook Labor Government is strengthening Western Australia Police's capability through a $16.7 million investment in the Frontline Police Optimisation program, ensuring more officers are working on the frontline keeping the community safe.
Under the program, non-core police work will be shifted to support roles, allowing police officers to focus on frontline duties, enabling faster emergency responses, increased community visibility, and improved crime-solving outcomes in the State's fast-growing community.
This initiative will see those officers who are unable to return to operational duties due to injury or illness to be supported, ensuring their expertise and experience remains within WA Police Force.
By investing in this program and re-allocating staff, the WA Police Force frontline presence is significantly increased as officers can concentrate on duties that require their specialised training and powers.
This investment reflects the Cook Labor Government's commitment to building safe communities, by tackling family and domestic violence, reducing youth crime, and supporting officers to deliver world-class policing services.
Comments attributed to Police Minister Reece Whitby:
"The Cook Labor Government is committed to delivering a stronger Police Force to respond faster in our growing community.
"This is about making sure our frontline is as strong as ever - ensuring police officers are where they are needed most - keeping Western Australians safe.
"By shifting non-operational tasks to appropriate roles, we are unlocking thousands of additional policing hours each year.
"This program ensures we retain the skills and experience of officers who can no longer serve on the frontline, while creating opportunities for officers to work actively in the community."
