"Digital Italy: the New World" - The conference presenting the 2025 study conducted by the Politecnico di Milano's Digital Agenda Observatory in collaboration with Almaviva has come to a close. Lanfranco Marasso, Head of International Digital Innovation & R&D, took part in the event.

With the NRRP ending in June 2026, Italy's digital agenda is poised to enter a "new world", full of both opportunities and potential challenges. As shown in the study conducted by PoliMI's Digital Agenda Observatory, in recent years, thanks to the NRRP, Italy has benefited from extraordinary resources for its digitalization: about €49 billion over five years, equal to 30% of all EU resources allocated by the plan to digital transformation - significantly more than other member states. These funds have been put to good use: Italy is ahead of most other countries in Europe when it comes to realizing the PNRR's digital transformation goals. However, between January and June 2026, a further 30% of what was promised to the European Commission on this front still needs to be implemented.

Internationally, Italy continues to rank in the lower tier among the most digitalized countries. According to the Digital Decade 2030 indicators, it places 23rd out of 27 European countries, although its growth rate is in line with that of other European countries of similar size and administrative complexity. While the final NRRP measures are expected to be completed on schedule, it is necessary to think about how to ensure a sustainable future for the country's digital transformation.
