Cassidy Announces Plan to Lower Gas Prices

WASHINGTON - U.S. Senator Bill Cassidy, M.D. (R-LA) today unveiled his energy plan to lower gas prices. Cassidy's agenda aims to produce more American energy, cut red tape, and lower costs so Louisiana families pay less at the pump and less on their energy bills.

"To lower prices immediately, we must support President Trump's efforts to open the Strait of Hormuz. In the meantime, let's work on what else can be done," said Dr. Cassidy. "For example, increasing oil and gas production off the coast of Louisiana and across the U.S., boosting imports to Louisiana's refineries, and passing permitting reform to get fuel to market faster. My plan does that, creating more jobs and lowering prices at the pump for Louisianians."

The Cassidy Energy Plan to Lower Gas Prices focuses on four areas of reform.

  • Boost American Supply: Produce more American energy to bring prices down.
  • Slash Costs & Fix Broken Permitting: Cut permitting delays, end unnecessary energy restrictions, and reject any domestic carbon tax.
  • Build a Stronger Energy System: Invest in reliable energy infrastructure to keep costs low and the lights on.
  • Compete Globally: Stand up for American energy and workers by expanding U.S. energy exports, enforcing fair trade, and securing critical supply chains.

Background

Cassidy has consistently worked to bring down energy costs for American families. He played a critical role in expanding offshore lease sales and extending the length of said leases in the Working Families Tax Cuts Act. Earlier this month, Cassidy secured $29 million to strengthen transmission lines and update an electrical substation in Cameron Parish.
