Upcoming Signal Updates in Poplar Bluff, MO

SIKESTON-The Missouri Department of Transportation plans to improve two intersections in Poplar Bluff, Missouri. The updates include removing the signals at the intersection of Route WW and Henry Street and replacing the signals at the intersection of Business 60 and 9th Street.

• Signal Removal at Route WW and Henry Street Since the initial installation of traffic signals in this location, traffic volumes have declined. This location does not currently meet criteria for a traffic signal. The project will remove the existing span wire signals and permanently install Rectangular Rapid Flashing Beacons (RRFBs) for the pedestrian crossing. The improvements will also include widening the curve radius at each corner and providing pedestrian refuge islands.
• Signal Replacement at Business 60 and 9th Street The existing signal equipment is around 40 years old. In an effort to replace aging infrastructure, the existing signal equipment will be replaced with an updated traffic signal. In addition, the project will add a left turn lane on Business 60 and pedestrian refuge islands on the south side of the intersection.

Tentatively, the projects will be let in December 2027, with construction beginning as early as February 2028. Construction will be underway for approximately three months at each location. During work, motorists should anticipate potential lane closures and minor delays.

Maps, plans, and other information prepared by the Missouri Department of Transportation will be available for public inspection and copying at MoDOT's Sikeston District office, 2675 N. Main St. in Sikeston, Missouri.
