TWU’s Ogiamien selected for 2026-27 Fulbright program award

Sept. 17, 2026 - DENTON - Texas Woman's graduate Danielle Ogiamien has received a Fulbright U.S. Student Program award to study and conduct biology research in the southern Africa country of Botswana for the 2026-2027 academic year.

Ogiamien's project will focus on a computational research study in the country's capital, Gaborone, to study the immune systems of individuals co-infected with HIV and TB. Using immunoinformatics, which integrate bioinformatics and immunology, the study aims to identify disrupted immune pathways, predict T-cell and B-cell epitopes for vaccine development, and model therapeutic responses specific to the Botswanan population.

She brings exactly what the Fulbright Program was built for: intellectual curiosity, a deep commitment to her community, and the confidence to carry ideas across borders," TWU Provost Angela Bauer said. "As a woman in STEM, Danielle understands that scientific discovery is strengthened when more voices are part of it. The relationships she builds in Botswana and the perspectives she gains there will shape her work for years to come, and we know she will represent Texas Woman's University and the United States with distinction."

Ogiamien graduated in August 2025 with a Professional Science Master's in biotechnology.

Close to 2,000 Fulbright U.S. students - recent college graduates, graduate students, and early career professionals - pursue graduate study, conduct research, or teach English in schools abroad each year.
