ASEAN Secretariat met with the Secretariats of Subregional Group to Strengthen Cooperation and Synergy through the Joint Consultative Meeting (JCM) 2026

The ASEAN Secretariat and the Asian Development Bank (ADB) co-organised the Joint Consultative Meeting (JCM) with the BIMP-EAGA Facilitation Centre (BIMP-FC), the Centre for the IMT-GT (CIMT), and the Greater Mekong Subregion (GMS) Secretariat. The meeting revisited priorities under the Joint Plan of Action (JPOA) 2026-2030, to ensure alignment with the ASEAN Community Vision (ACV) 2045 and its Strategic Plans, particularly under the ASEAN Economic Community (AEC) Strategic Plan 2026-2030, as well as the IAI Work Plan V (2026-2030), while identifying new areas for collaboration and strengthening coordination mechanisms.

In his opening remarks, the Deputy Secretary-General of ASEAN for AEC emphasised the growing importance of strong, results-oriented cooperation with subregional frameworks as ASEAN enters the implementation phase of the ACV 2045. He underscored the need to realign priorities under the JPOA 2026-2030 to deepen collaboration in the key priority sectors and to strengthen institutional synergies in delivering tangible, on-the-ground impact that advances inclusive, resilient, and sustainable growth across ASEAN and its subregions.

The meeting discussed priority sectors including tourism, clean energy, sustainable urban development and agriculture, as well as emerging areas such as the blue economy. Through information sharing, sectoral dialogues, and forward-looking action points, the meeting reinforced institutional synergies, enhanced coordination and monitoring arrangements, and demonstrated collective efforts to advancing inclusive, sustainable, and resilient regional development across ASEAN and its subregional initiatives.
