In the control session held in the Lower House of Parliament, the President of the Government of Spain, Pedro Sánchez, has highlighted the stability of the Executive, "the third longest-serving Government in the European Union", and the effectiveness of the measures adopted, in accordance with the latest economic growth forecasts.

"This is a Government that governs with stability and also with efficiency", the leader of the Executive pointed out in his reply to Alberto Núñez Feijóo, a member of the People's Group, in which he recalled that in the last seven years there have been seven prime ministers in France, six in Austria and five in the United Kingdom.

"There are the results: 2.7% economic growth for this year, once again leading the advanced economies in growth and job creation, and this is a success for the country," he added.

And stability is not ensured by an absolute majority: "This Government guarantees stability, not because it has an absolute parliamentary majority, but because it governs for the majority: the stability we are interested in is that of salaries, workers, civil servants and the risk premium."

Commitment to Catalonia

The leader of the Executive defended his commitment to Catalonia in his answer to the question posed by Míriam Nogueras, a member of the parliamentary group Junts per Catalunya, to whom he assured that Spain and Catalonia "are experiencing one of the best moments of the last few decades".

Pedro Sánchez has backed this idea by referring to the transfer of regional funding - more than 60 billion euros -, the funds of the Recovery Plan for investments in that region - almost 10 billion euros -, the economic growth figures and the application of the Amnesty Law.

At this point, the president once again acknowledged his concern about the housing problem - against which the Government has just announced the launch of a new state plan - and the need for the communities to comply with what is established in the Housing Law: "We would like other administrations in other territories to do the same as Catalonia is doing".

Diversification in the face of tariffs

In response to a question from Mertxe Aizpurua, a member of the Euskal Herria Bildu parliamentary group, on Spain's reaction to the United States' tariff policy, Pedro Sánchez stressed that the Government will follow the European Union's line of diversifying agreements, such as those with Mercosur and Indonesia, in order to redirect the impacts that may occur.

"This is also what the Government of Spain is doing, trying to open up new commercial allies in other parts of the world where we can export", explained the president, who recalled the Royal Decree-Law approved in this area and insisted on a second line of work, where "much remains to be done": that of promoting and deepening the single market.

Furthermore, Pedro Sánchez has assured that he is aware that the tariffs may affect the Basque Country much more intensely than other parts of Spain and has stressed that the Executive is and will remain attentive to any developments that may occur on this issue.
