Pawtucket man to be sentenced for driving death of 34-year-old Providence woman

Attorney General Peter F. Neronha announced today that a Pawtucket man has pleaded to multiple charges in Providence County Superior Court for his role in the driving death of 34-year-old Nanleomariz Albizu during the early morning hours of New Year's Day in 2022.

At a hearing on April 27, 2026, before Justice Luis M. Matos, Gregory Miller (age 47) entered a plea of nolo contendere to one count of failure to stop after being involved in a crash that resulted in death and one count of driving to endanger resulting in death.

The defendant is scheduled to be sentenced on July 17, 2026.

"Nanleomariz's loss is nothing short of a tragedy, made worse by the defendant failing to take responsibility for his actions," said Attorney General Neronha."The defendant made a dangerous, and ultimately deadly, decision when he got behind the wheel of the car that night. Had the defendant immediately reported the crash, the outcome may have been different. My thoughts are with Nanleomariz's family and loved ones, and I hope they can find some closure knowing that the defendant is being held accountable for his actions.I am grateful to the Lincoln Police Department and the Rhode Island State Police for their partnership in this difficult case and in many others."

Had the case proceeded to trial, the State was prepared to prove beyond a reasonable doubt that during the early morning hours of January 1, 2022, the defendant left the scene of a car crash that killed 34-year-old Nanleomariz Albizu.

That morning, members of the Lincoln Police Department responded to Cobble Hill Road for a report of a roll-over vehicle crash. Upon arriving at the scene, officers found that the driver of the vehicle, later identified as the defendant, had fled the scene. Rescue personnel located the Nanleomariz several yards away from the vehicle, unconscious and suffering from significant trauma to her head. Rescue personnel immediately transported Nanleomariz to Rhode Island Hospital, where she was pronounced deceased.

Investigators confirmed via video surveillance footage from Bally's Twin River Casino that earlier that night, the couple arrived and left the casino in the vehicle involved in the crash. The defendant later turned himself in to Lincoln Police Headquarters on January 3, 2022.

"All too often reckless, dangerous driving yields tragic results," said Lincoln Police Chief Dennis Fleming. "I appreciate the efforts of our officers, the Rhode Island State Police, and prosecutors in the Attorney General's Office on their successful efforts to hold this defendant to account. I hope the victim's family can now find some comfort and healing."

Assistant Attorney General John Corrigan of the Office of the Attorney General and Detectives Richard Bousquet and Kyle Wingate of the Lincoln Police Department led the investigation and prosecution of the case with the assistance of the Rhode Island State Police Collision Reconstruction Unit, Captain Jeffrey L'Heureux and Lieutenant Adam Kennett.
