Statement from Mayor Bowser on the Reappointment of Public Service Commission Members

(Washington, DC) -Today, Mayor Muriel Bowser resubmitted two nominations for the Public Service Commission and released the following statement:

"Today, per our discussions with the Council, we are resetting the clock on consideration of the reappointments of Emile Thompson and Ted Trabue, Jr. for the Public Service Commission. Their expertise and commitment to transparency make Mr. Thompson and Mr. Trabue exceptionally qualified, with Commissioner Richard Beverly, to guide the Commission through the fast-changing utility landscape ahead.

"These nominees were confirmed with the overwhelming support of the Council in 2022, and we look forward to their timely consideration and hearing so that the Commission can maintain stability and continue their important work on behalf of District residents without interruption. A functioning regulatory commission is necessary for a safe and reliable system.

"Today's high electricity bills have a myriad of causes, so I will be inviting the Council to join me in a look at the regulatory, legislative, and regional approaches to lowering electricity bills and addressing the changing utility landscape."
