Maputo, Mozambique - The European Union Military Assistance Mission in Mozambique (EUMAM MOZ) welcomed a delegation from the European External Action Service (EEAS) yesterday, 18 June, at the Mission Headquarters in Maputo and at the Katembe Training Camp.
The delegation, composed of the EEAS Managing Director for Africa, Ambassador Patricia Llombart; the Deputy Managing Director for Peace, Security and Defence, Cormin Dobran; and the Head of Unit for Southern Africa and the Indian Ocean within the Maniging Directorate Africa, Carolina Cordeiro, was accompanied by the Head of the European Union Delegation to Mozambique, Ambassador Antonino Maggiore, and received by the EUMAM MOZ Mission Force Commander, Commodore César Pires Correia.
Throughout the visit, the delegation gained a deeper understanding of the work carried out by EUMAM MOZ in support of strengthening the capabilities of the Mozambican Defence Armed Forces (FADM), as well as the key achievements attained since the launch of the Mission.
The security challenges that continue to affect Cabo Delgado were also discussed, highlighting the importance of an integrated approach that combines security, development and humanitarian assistance. In this context, the delegation was briefed on EUMAM MOZ' contribution to enhancing the security, stability and operational effectiveness of the Mozambican Armed Forces, and consequently to the protection of the population.

The visit also included a tour of the Katembe Training Camp, where the delegation had the opportunity to observe the work being carried out in support of the regeneration of the FADM Quick Reaction Forces (QRF).
The visit reaffirmed the European Union's commitment to supporting Mozambique through an integrated approach aimed at promoting peace, stability and national security.
EUMAM Mozambique is a non-executive mission, with a mandate until December 2026, focused on the operational training cycle, maintenance and specialised training, with the objective of contributing to the self-sufficiency of the FADM in countering the insurgency in Cabo Delgado.
