The 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the SCO Member States takes place in Bishkek
On June 19, 2026, the 6th Meeting of Energy Ministers of the Member States of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation was held in Bishkek under the chairmanship of the Minister of Energy of the Kyrgyz Republic, Altynbek Rysbekov.
The heads of delegations held a substantive discussion on the current state and prospects of cooperation in the energy sector, particularly in the context of volatility in international energy markets. They paid special attention to further expanding interaction in the areas of energy conservation and energy efficiency, ensuring energy security, protecting energy infrastructure, and promoting a just energy transition. An agreement was reached to continue expert consultations on the establishment of an Energy Consortium of the SCO member states.
A representative of the SCO Secretariat informed the parties about the progress in implementing the Strategy for Energy Cooperation Development until 2030 and its Roadmap, and drew attention to relevant issues on the energy agenda. He noted the need to implement joint pilot projects in the field of renewable energy, including through the potential of the "China-SCO" Cooperation Platform launched in September 2025.
Following the Meeting, the heads of delegations approved the draft Statements of the SCO Council of Heads of State on the development of cooperation in energy conservation and energy efficiency, and on the development of cooperation in energy systems. The adoption of these documents is planned during the upcoming Bishkek Summit of the Organisation.
