WSWA statement on U.S.-Canada Tariffs Affecting Beverage Alcohol

"Trade disputes should not come at the expense of American consumers, workers, and local businesses. This ban will remove products from store shelves and restaurant menus across the country. Consumers expect to be able to purchase the products they know and enjoy - wine and spirits that are often defined by where they are made and cannot simply be replaced with another product.

As Americans head into holiday season, they should be able to count on finding the products they want for gatherings, celebrations and gift-giving. Retailers, wholesalers, restaurants, hospitality businesses work year-round to provide consumers with a broad selection of products. Removing products from the marketplace will make it harder for businesses to meet consumer expectations and undermine a marketplace built on competition and choice.

American consumers should not be collateral damage in an international trade dispute. We urge the governments of the United States and Canada to work quickly towards a resolution that restores access to the products consumers expect and businesses rely upon."
