On 14 May 2026, H.E. Mr. Sihasak Phuangketkeow, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Foreign Affairs, met with H.E. Dr. Badr Abdelatty, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Egypt, on the sidelines of the 2026 BRICS Foreign Ministers' Meeting in New Delhi.
Both sides welcomed the longstanding relations between Thailand and Egypt, which marked the 70th anniversary of their establishment of diplomatic relations in 2024, and discussed promoting economic and trade cooperation, with an emphasis on increasing the value of trade in agricultural products, food, and tourism. Both sides also agreed to utilize Egypt as a gateway to the African region and Thailand as a gateway to ASEAN, including through strengthening economic partnership under the Thailand - Africa Initiative (TAI).
In addition, the two sides discussed strengthening cooperation within multilateral frameworks, including promoting people-to-people relations through cooperation in education, culture, agriculture and food, as well as enhancing private sector cooperation through the establishment of a Joint Business Council.
