This Valentine's season, students and staff at the British Academy of Jewellery (BAJ), Camden and Birmingham campuses are turning creativity into community impact through the "Charms for Charity" exhibition and sale.
Each charm will be sold for £10, with all proceeds going to Men's Minds Matter in Birmingham and the Young Camden Foundation in London. Every piece is individually handmade, giving visitors the chance to buy a unique charm and support local charities.
Craft, skill, and creativity in handmade jewellery
Level 3 and Level 4 Jewellery Design and Manufacturing students, alongside staff, are creating one-of-a-kind charms using brass, copper, silver, and repurposed materials.
Miranda Sharpe, Apprenticeship Coordinator and Birmingham Centre Lead says,
"The project encourages both experimentation and craftsmanship. Our students explore a wide range of materials and techniques while building confidence in hands-on making. Each charm reflects an individual approach to design, which is what makes the collection so special."
Students and staff making an impact in their communities
At both the London and Birmingham campuses, students and staff are channeling their creativity into handmade charms that make a meaningful contribution to their communities.
Kate Rieppel, Head of Curriculum, Further Education at BAJ says,
"From handmade creations to collaborative art projects, our students and staff channel creativity into action, raising support for local charities while leaving a lasting mark on our community."
