WT Enrollment Dips for Fall 2026 Semester

CANYON, Texas - Enrollment at West Texas A&M University is down for the fall 2026 semester, newly released figures showed.

Overall enrollment is down about 4 percent for the new semester.

The 12th class day, which fell on Sept. 10, is when Texas' public universities traditionally report enrollment in the fall and spring semesters.

WT's overall enrollment is 8,866, down from 9,257 in fall 2025.

"We are confident in the plans and initiatives we have put in place," said Dr. Rick Haasl, vice president for enrollment management. "We are already in the process of strengthening the things that worked and addressing the areas where we can improve and expand."

In May, WT saw its largest graduating class since 2019-2,573 students, nearly 300 more than the previous year.

Among WT's six Colleges, the Terry B. Rogers College of Education and Social Sciences saw its numbers increase by nearly 6 percent, including an 8 percent growth in the Department of Education. The College of Engineering also grew 3 percent over last fall.
