A new Nitrogen Soil Sampling Project launched this week provides field-level data to help optimize fertilizer use and benefit water quality.
This three-year project from the Iowa Department of Agriculture and Land Stewardship and the Iowa Nutrient Research & Education Council (INREC) provides free nitrogen soil sampling in Boone, Calhoun, Greene, Hamilton and Webster counties this spring. The program will expand this fall to include more fields in the Boone, Des Moines, Middle Cedar and Raccoon River watersheds, supporting both on-farm profitability and long-term environmental stewardship.
