Governor Reynolds orders flags at half-staff in honor of former Vice President Dick Cheney
Today, Governor Kim Reynolds ordered all flags in Iowa to be lowered to half-staff immediately until sunset on the day of interment in honor and remembrance of Dick Cheney who served as Vice President of the United States from 2001 to 2009 alongside President George W. Bush. Dick Cheney also served in Congress and as Secretary of Defense. He was 84 years old.
"Dick Cheney will be remembered as a remarkable statesman-in Congress and the Executive Branch, in times of peace and war, at home and abroad," Gov. Reynolds said. "Above all, he will be remembered as a patriot, who dedicated his life to the service of his country. Kevin and I offer our sincere condolences and prayers to his family. May he rest in peace."
Flags will be at half-staff on the State Capitol Building and on flag displays in the Capitol Complex. Flags will also be half-staff on all public buildings, grounds and facilities throughout the state.
Individuals, businesses, schools, municipalities, counties and other government subdivisions are encouraged to fly the flag at half-staff for the same length of time as a sign of respect.
