City to Deploy White Flag Activation Tonight Through the Weekend

The City of Greensboro will activate White Flag warming centers tonight and through the weekend in response to the anticipated overnight low temperatures.

First Baptist Church, 1000 W. Friendly Ave., will provide overnight shelter from 7 pm Friday, December 5, into Saturday, December 6, until 7 am. The church will provide shelter at the same times on Saturday and Sunday nights into Monday morning, December 8. The First Baptist warming center is open to single adults and families.

First Baptist Church will be staffed by Interactive Resource Center staff, who are trained to work with special populations and coordinate services upon request.

Activation of 'White Flag' occurs when the actual or "feels like" temperature is at least 32 degrees for two or more hours.

A "White Flag" can also be activated when the weather forecast or current weather conditions include a winter weather event causing freezing precipitation, extended below freezing temperatures, and/or wind concerns, which may impact homeless encampments.
