FEMA Approves Compact Disaster Declaration for the Federated States of Micronesia

OAKLAND, Calif. - The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) has approved a Compact Disaster Declaration for the Federated States of Micronesia as a result from Super Typhoon Sinlaku, which impacted the region April 9-12.

Super Typhoon Sinlaku brought destructive winds, heavy rainfall, and widespread flooding to the Federated States of Micronesia, resulting in significant damage to homes, infrastructure, and essential services.

This declaration authorizes the U.S. government to provide disaster relief and recovery assistance under Article X of the Federal Programs and Services Agreement to the Compact of Free Association between the Government of the United States of America and the Government of the Federated States of Micronesia. The U.S. Department of State will coordinate these disaster assistance efforts. Funding will be provided by FEMA.

To expedite delivery of assistance for immediate unmet needs in the impacted area, FEMA has provided an initial $8 million for the U.S. Department of State to coordinate initial relief and recovery assistance.
